In response to the agreement between the Government of Sudan, represented by the Governor of the Red Sea State and Masa Group represented by its General Manager, dated 20 October 2001. a techno –economic feasibility study was conducted to assess the viability of constructing an alternative water supply for Port-Sudan utilizing the River Nile water starting from Atbara.
Project Description
The pipeline will follow the route from Atbara, haya, samad and down to Port Sudan. The overall route is 468 km. The project will pump 100000 m3/day in phase 1 and 200000 m3/day in phase 2. A detailed techno-economical feasibility study and conceptual design were conducted by Awtad Consultancy. The proposed pipe is 60 inch diameter (Carbon Steel Pipes, Submerged Arc Welded API 5L, Grade X52, Internal Design Pressure of 50 bar, Pumping Power For 100,000 m3/day, Outside Diameter (1524 mm), Inside Diameter (1485 mm), the Pumping Power is 9.453 MW/ For 200,000m3/day, the Pumping power is 26.65MW )
